Banks-Vernonia State Trail is the first “rails-to-trails” park in Oregon. The trail follows an abandoned railroad bed that stretches 21 miles between the cities of Banks and Vernonia.
Trail highlights include 13 bridges and views from the 733-foot long, 80-foot high Buxton Trestle, open to hikers and bicyclists
The Buxton trestle is a 100 year old high railroad trestle that's been converted for hiker & biker use. Access to the trestle is just a short walk from the Buxton Trailhead.
The trestle is part of the 21 mile Banks-Vernonia Trail which passes through Stub Stewart State Park. So please bring your bikes and try out the trail!
There at two disc golf courses tucked within the trees. One is a beginner 9 hole course and the other is a more advanced 18 hole course. Bring your own discs, borrow ours, or purchase discs at the Welcome Center on site.
Check out the views at the Hilltop day use shelter. A $5 parking permit is required.
The welcome center has a small shop for items you may have forgotten as well as lots of info on the park and surrounding area.
We have reserved the event hall in the cabin village for the entire day on Saturday July 20, 2024. There will be lawn games, and food and beverages served throughout the day.
